Haydn Cello Concerto in D major, exposition and development plus Orchestral Excerpts


2nd round

Schumann or Dvořák Cello Concerto 1st movement plus Orchestral Excerpts 


3rd round

Chamber music round with ensemble 

Schubert Quintet C major 1st movement

The audition will take place in the concert hall of Musikkens Hus, Aalborg. 

An accompanist will be provided by the Orchestra.

Please do not send us any of the following documents: copies of certificates, diplomas, recommendations or photos. 


All candidates are automatically invited to the audition.


General information:

At the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra we try to ensure that all candidates have the opportunity to perform their very best on the day:

• all our staff are available to help you with any questions on the day.

• we follow a time schedule so you can be prepared when you are called to play for each round. 

• the programme for each round might be shortened depending on the number of contestants on the day. We will however always announce what we expect to hear prior to each round. Candidates will be allowed to play the material for each round without being stopped.

• all candidates will be guaranteed an individual practice room to warm up. 

• all candidates will be called in for the audition by our staff.

• all rounds will take place on stage on our concert hall. For the first two rounds the jury will be behind a screen.

• the piano will be tuned at A=442.

• all the excerpts are to be found in a pdf link uploaded after the closing date.

• on audition days our artist lounge is reserved for all contestants to relax between rounds - there is free coffee, beverages, fruit, and snacks . There are also shops/cafes nearby the hall where one can buy food. Please ask our staff for directions.

• as soon as the deadline for this audition is closed you will receive an e-mail with further information to help with planning your visit to Aalborg. Please contact Anders M. Christensen if you do not hear from us by then or if you have any further questions regarding the audition.


Applicants must pay their own travel and accommodation expenses.
